Peter C. Evans is a recognized leader at the intersection of digital platforms and the circular economy. With over 25 years of experience in corporate strategy and innovation, including senior roles at McFadyen Digital, KPMG, and General Electric, Evans has shaped global understanding of how marketplace platforms can accelerate sustainable business practices and scale the circular economy.
Evans has made significant contributions through research, thought leadership, and convening key summits. He is the principal author of “Circular Platforms: Findings from a Global Survey,” a pioneering report analyzing 300 digital platforms worldwide and their impact on extending product lifecycles, maximizing resource use, and reducing waste. His work illuminates the rapid growth and sector diversity of circular platforms, demonstrating their capacity to reshape consumption and unlock new business opportunities.
As a prolific speaker and educator, Evans co-chairs the MIT Platform Strategy Summit and NTWRK Summit, and has taught platform strategy at Caltech Executive Education and previously at Dartmouth College. He is also co-designer and co-instructor, with Rich Bulger, of the All Things Circular Masterclass at the intersection of circular logistics and platform strategy. This course has now been taught across the United States, Europe, and Asia, providing actionable insights on transforming reverse logistics into a competitive business advantage.
Evans has become a leading voice in demonstrating how platforms, originally built for linear commerce, can power regenerative, closed-loop business models by enabling resale, refurbishment, and repair at scale. Notably, he has quantified the market impact, showing that circular platforms already account for roughly a quarter of transactions in the circular economy today and could rise to nearly 60% by 2030.
Evans advocates for bridging platform innovation and circularity, calling for greater corporate adoption and public-private collaboration to accelerate the shift. His research and practical frameworks have established blueprints for expanding circular marketplaces, inspiring business leaders, technologists, and sustainability advocates worldwide.
Evans holds a master’s degree and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a BA from Hampshire College.
